Material Eating by Konstantinos Kotsis, St.A.i.R (Styrian Artist in Residence).

Konstantinos Kotsis investigates the concept of construction through various mediums, inspired by the dynamic and ever-changing nature of the world. His work engages with social constructs and explores the intersections between self-build practices, public spaces, and the natural environment. Over time, Kotsis has developed a research-based, site-specific practice that moves beyond the limits of traditional studio work. As a Styria-Artist-in-Residency fellow, he will further examine construction sites as subtle mechanisms of slow violence in public space.
Kotsis holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the School of Fine Arts at the University of Ioannina, Greece, and has also studied at UFR Arts, Philosophie, Esthétique at Paris 8 University. In 2019, he was awarded the SNF Artist Fellowship Program by ARTWORKS. He is currently completing a second master’s degree in Fine Arts at the Athens School of Fine Arts, supported by the A.G. Leventis Foundation Educational Grant.
His works have been exhibited in group shows in Greece and abroad, including Unhappy Monuments (2020, Eleftherias Park, Athens), Curved Arrows (2019, Kunstraum am Schauplatz, Vienna), Constellations in the Dirt (2018, Kouphonisi Archaeological Collection, Ano Kouphonisi), Acropolis at the Bottom (2018, Athens School of Fine Arts), and Notes on Division: The Kids Want Communism, Third Instalment (2017, Museum of Bat Yam, Israel). In his first solo exhibition, In Standing Waters (2021, CLOSING SOON, Athens), Kotsis explored the precarious balance, experienced in times of social, political, and health crises.
