Camilla Alberti, Styria-Artist-in-Residence (St.A.i.R.) in conversation with artist Andreas Heller

Camilla Alberti (Milan, 1994) obtained a MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies at NABA. Her practice reflects on the concept of building worlds, on the roles and relationships that each inhabitant (human and non-human) defines with his being in the world. She collects abandoned objects, industrial waste and organic fragments in a process of urban archaeology. She investigates ruins as active and metamorphic spaces (Augè, 2004) and creates hybrid spaces in which materials dialogue with each other in decentralised structures inspired by plant interconnections and fungal lattices. Through sculpture, painting and installation she builds micro-worlds based on hybridisation and inter-species collaboration. Her current work focuses on imaginaries and narrative methods that can modify the human being in the world. She rethinks bodies as spaces and transforms them into multiple, hybrid and monstrous organisms.
